North Country Trail

North Dakota to New York

The North Country National Scenic Trail is a 4600-mile footpath extending from North Dakota to New York. Being one of the eleven National Scenic Trails, the NCT is by far the longest-stretching 1500+ miles farther than the Continental Divide National Scenic Trail.

The parts that run through northern Minnesota connect Lake Superior all the way to Otter Tail/Becker County & to the MN/ND border.

Rookies looking for a short scenic walk in the great outdoors, highly seasoned hikers seeking a fun challenge, & families connecting with each other & nature, the NCT invites all levels of hikers and outdoor enthusiasts.

Enjoy this trail any season- snowshoe down groomed trails in Duluth, peep the migratory waterfowl during the spring and fall migrations in Fergus Falls, and leisure along the wooded areas to witness the spectacular colors of the changing leaves come autumn throughout the trail.
