Archaeology day event planned at Mille Lacs Kathio State Park
VINELAND—The Minnesota Archaeological Society will be at Mille Lacs Kathio State Park Saturday, Sept. 29, to host displays, demonstrations and activities highlighting archaeology and Minnesota heritage.
The event runs 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the park's picnic area. Demonstrations will include flint knapping, prehistoric pottery, primitive bows, spears and spear-throwers, archery in the park and kids' activities. Displays include artifacts, books and pamphlets from the Minnesota Archaeological Society, archaeology and research of the Minnesota Historical Society, Office of the State Archaeologist, Maritime Heritage Minnesota and St. Cloud State University. Archaeology films will run continuously in the Interpretive Center. Also, the public is invited to observe as archaeologists conduct a small excavation where a previous survey revealed some ancient artifacts.
This event is sponsored by the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources Parks and Trails, Minnesota Archaeological Society and St. Cloud State University.
There is no charge. A vehicle permit is required to enter Minnesota state parks. Vehicle permits may be purchased at the park office. Cost of a daily permit is $7. An annual permit is $35.
